....and as for my television addiction.....

I love TV.  I always have.  I like all kinds of shows - sitcoms, dramas, reality, news, sports, documentaries, LOVE game shows, etc.  This slave to the box mentality has gotten me in trouble before, but I don't think TV "rots your brain" as they used to say when I was a kid.  I think it can be, at its best, a world-changing medium, an educational tool or just good entertainment.  Of course, there is a heap of rubbish on the hundreds of channels one can subscribe to currently.  Who ever thought we would want, or need, four different programmes on cake making? So here, in no particular order, are some of my favorite (mostly) current TV shows.  (You'll have to find your own airtimes, there are too many to list.)

Modern Family
The funniest show on television.  Just the one scene in Season 2's "Earthquake" when Manny tells Jay "you're playing pretty fast and loose with my soul" is better than 80% of shows out there.

The Sopranos
SkyAmerica has started this series from the beginning.  I never watched it when it was originally on, and I wish I had.  We're halfway through season 2 and the storylines and acting keeps getting better and better.  James Gandolfini and Nancy Marchand are amazing, especially when they are in a scene together.

The Deadliest Catch
I don't know how many women watch this show, but I think more should.  It gives a real insight into how men act without women around.  Sociologists must love this show.  It explores the father/son and sibling relationships, the heirarchical structure on the boats and how brave and tough these guys really are, or aren't, as the case may be.  I came to this show late, maybe the fourth season, when my brother-in-law was watching it. Then the Discovery Channel had a marathon and I soon found myself knowing an awful lot about crab fishing.  I'm hooked (pun intended).

Masterchef Australia
In my armchair chef's opinion, this is the best of all the 'chef' reality shows, the only one I watch and the show that originated (I think) the current format that all the Masterchef shows use.  I find the judges/mentors Gary and George funny and charming and, above all, relaxed.  This is definitely a competition, but I find the Australians are much more laid-back about it and actually seem to be enjoying the experience.  Maybe that's why the Dalai Lama recently appeared on an episode.

Star Trek: Voyager
Those who know me well know that I am a bit of a sci-fi/fantasy geek.  I love Star Trek, but, unlike most fans, I think, I love Voyager the best.  You can't beat the banter of the Doctor and Seven of Nine.  I've been told I bark like Janeway and Neelix and Tuvok always make me laugh.  Although they are supposed to be in the most dire situation, it never seems to take itself as seriously as TNG and it is so much more clever than Enterprise.

ESPN America
Not only did I get to watch the entire NHL post-season live, see the Bruins finally win another Stanley Cup, but I also get to watch my beloved Red Sox live on HD TV on a regular basis.

Dynamo: Magician Impossible
If you can't find this on cable, check him out on youtube.  Suspend disbelief and prepare to be amazed.

I would have been watching Lie to Me had the network the sense to renew it.  Breaking Bad is brilliant and I will watch when it starts over here.  Completely gone off of True Blood and can't help it that John, John and Jill from Wipeout are really funny.

I can absolutely see similarities between you and Janeway!

We are still hooked on Burn Notice and recently got addicted to Necessary Roughness and Falling Skies. The new SyFy show Alphas shows promise - the core idea is something like Heroes, but so far it's better executed.

I've gotten hooked on Korean dramas I'm watching on Netflix and vikii.com. Don't ask! Always meant to work my way through the Sopranos but there is so much of it, but every time I catch a rerun it's just so well done.
